Do you remember what Temple University’s Main Campus looked like while you were a student? Much has changed over the past several years, especially within the last year, as more than 100 construction and renovation projects are underway.
To inform alumni on the latest Fox School news and bring them back to the place where it all began, the Young Accounting Alumni Group (YAAG) hosted a Throwback Thursday event involving a guided tour of campus this fall. Jonathan Reiter, BBA ’09, director of finance, budget and capital expenditures at Temple University, and co-founder of YAAG, led members of the nearly 300-people group around the construction zones and discussed some notable developments, including:
- New bronze owl statue perched outside Founder’s Garden
- New library — a four-story, 225,000-square-foot academic commons at Polett and Liacouras walks
- Updated Howard Gittis Student Center food court and atrium, now offering a Chick-fil-A, BurgerFi, Saladworks, and Starbucks
- 1810 Liacouras Walk — the building adjacent to Alter Hall will provide 77,000 square feet for classrooms and academic centers for the Fox School
Following the tour, attendees had the opportunity to continue reminiscing with former classmates and old friends and make new connections over food and drinks at the Draught Horse.
Since its launch in 2015, YAAG has hosted a variety of social networking events to enable young accounting professionals to connect and network. In 2018, YAAG looks forward to bringing members together at least two events, which the board is currently planning, says Reiter. He encourages all young alumni to attend the upcoming events and get involved, as YAAG “is a group of peers around the same age and in the same industry who attend fun events together and network with one another.”
In previous years, YAAG events included a tour of Yards Brewing Company with the brewery’s chief operating officer, Trevor Prichett, sponsored by KPMG and Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP, and a social at Howl at the Moon, sponsored by Pine Hill Group.
Interested in getting involved with YAAG or sponsoring an event? Eligible members include any person 35 years of age or younger who graduated from the Fox School of Business with a major in Accounting, or any person who graduated from Fox Accounting within the past seven years.
