Biography
Dr. John McClendon is a Chair of the Management Department at Temple University’s Fox School of Business, where he teaches in the undergraduate, MBA, Executive MBA and PhD programs. As Chair, he leads a department comprised of approximately 70 full-time and part-time adjunct faculty who deliver Management Department courses to 800 Business Management majors, 120 HR majors, 200 International Business Majors, and 97 Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management majors, 55 Master of Science in HR students, 50 Master of Science in Entrepreneurship & Innovation students, and 15 Ph.D. students. The department also delivers an array of core courses for both the BA and MBA programs. He has more than 41 years of human resource management experience, including university teaching, scholarly research, consulting, and private-sector management. Prior to his academic career, he worked in multiple HR positions at International Paper Company. Dr. McClendon’s scholarly research focuses on performance management systems and labor-relations and his work has appeared in management journals. His international experience includes teaching assignments at Temple’s Rome and Tokyo campuses, in the Fox School’s EMBA and programs in Singapore as well as visiting instructor at ENPC-MBA School of International Management in Paris. He has also been visiting faculty in a specialized EMBA-KPMG program at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He directed Temple’s Master of Science in HR from 1997 through 2013.
Dr. McClendon has received many teaching awards at Temple, including the Andrisani-Frank Award for Undergraduate Teaching in 1993, Musser Award for Excellence in Teaching (1999), Full-time MBA Program Teacher of the Year (2005), the Part-time Professional MBA Faculty of the Year on three occasions (2010, 2012, & 2014), Executive MBA-Philadelphia Faculty of the Year on two occasions (2010 and 2015), EMBA-Paris Faculty of the Year on four occasions (2011, 2013, 2015, & 2017), MSHR Singapore Faculty of the Year (2012 and 2013), the John DeAngelo Innovation in Teaching Award (2015), the MSHR -Philadelphia Faculty of the Year 2016. In 2006, he was the recipient of Temple’s Great Teacher Award, Temple University’s highest teaching honor.
