Consumers may be returning electronic devices during trial-periods because of stress felt from being pressured to make a financial decision within a deadline.

Jason Thatcher and a team from the University of Bamberg identified three categories of stress associated with new electronics, how that stress influenced product satisfaction or rejection, and how individual differences among consumers affected their stress levels.

Thatcher’s research emphasizes the importance of users’ product experiences during the trial-periods. Businesses are encouraged to design products that can be seamlessly adopted through simplified setup and strong customer support.
