On Oct. 14 and 21, Temple’s Small Business Development Center hosted a virtual, two part pitch deck bootcamp event. The event was led by Erika Tapp, the Temple SBDC’s expert consultant on new business ventures and startups. This workshop offers small businesses and eager entrepreneurs a chance to learn the proper way to create a pitch deck, whether they are pitching to clients, partners, or looking for potential investors. Thanks to funding from the Small Business Administration, this was offered at no-cost.
In this two part event, a variety of topics were addressed including
- what a pitch is,
- the importance of knowing your audience,
- how to use LivePlan, a low-cost platform for perfecting your pitch deck,
- the components of a proper pitch, and
- best practices to use when pitching via video conferencing.
The second day of the event allowed entrepreneurs to pitch their newly crafted pitch decks to SBDC consultants and one another. The pitches came from Pennsylvania preventure entrepreneurs, those that had recently launched their businesses, and several existing businesses that have already reached meaningful milestones. Every participant who pitched received feedback on how they could further refine their pitch decks to set themselves up for future success.
This two-part workshop will be hosted again on consecutive Saturdays in January, Jan. 9 and Jan. 16. It’s a great opportunity for early venture and pre-venture entrepreneurs looking to improve their business pitch and to better conceptualize their business plans.
