Jian Sun was born in Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province in China. As a child, he showed his strong interest in science, preferring to read the book “100000 why” to any cartoon books. As he progressed through middle and high school, he became more and more interested in mathematics. After the national college entrance exam, he enrolled in the department of mathematics in Shandong University in 2006 with a concentration in statistics since junior year. After graduation, he went to Michigan State University and served as a research assistant. He received his MS in statistics in 2012 and started his pharmaceutical career as a statistical programmer on the same year. Currently, Jian Sun is a third year PhD student interested in Bayes and Empirical Bayes Theory. His doctoral research is supervised and guided by Dr. Zhigen Zhao.
