Biography

Dr. Edmund (Ned) Lafer, an experienced Physician Executive, is the Healthcare Management Program’s new Assistant Professor and Assistant Program Director. He brings his 35 years of experience in both medicine and healthcare administration to work with students in the classroom, in co-curricular program events, and mentoring. His blend of both clinical and administrative practice provides a unique view of healthcare from both perspectives making him successful in creating and maintaining partnerships with the program’s healthcare industry partners/practitioners.

Dr. Lafer has served in a broad array of roles and areas in healthcare. He has clinical experience as a practicing physician, a medical director for an urban teaching hospital (Temple University) and as a medical director for health plans (Health Partners Plans, and AmeriHealth Administrators). Dr. Lafer also has experience in Healthcare Quality, Patient Safety, Performance Improvement, Utilization Review and Management, Finance, Payment Reform, Insurance, Risk Management, and Leadership.

Dr. Lafer has served on the America College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Board of Governors. He has served as the President of the Health Leadership Network of the Delaware Valley, a local chapter of ACHE, and is a Board certified as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).

He holds a BA from Haverford College, an MD degree from the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, and an MBA from Drexel University. He is a Six Sigma Black Belt and is a trained Mediator of the American Arbitration Association.
